Join native Mainer and Colby College graduate Catherine Fillebrown for the beginning level workshop - Chinese for Travelers.  The six-hour program offered by Penobscot School is scheduled for Saturday, March 3 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at 28 Gay Street in Rockland’s north end.

Chinese for Travelers is truly for the beginning language learner of all ages.  Catherine will lead participants through a variety of practical applications of the target language throughout the day.  As part of the program, participants will assist in the preparation of a traditional Chinese meal, learning common words and phrases that can be used on a daily basis during their travels.

The $88 fee includes all instruction, materials and lunch.  Limited youth scholarship assistance is available thanks to the generosity of United Mid-Coast Charities of Camden.  Pre-registration is required for all participants.  For registration, program or scholarship details, contact 207-594-1084 or click here and completed forms can be faxed to 207-594-1067.

Catherine Fillebrown graduated from Colby College with an East Asian studies major.  During college, she studied Chinese language for a year at Hamilton College’s Associated Colleges in China Program.  Upon returning to Colby, Catherine worked as a Chinese language tutor for first and second year students studying the language.  After graduating in 2005, she received a Junior Fulbright Fellowship to teach English in Taiwan.  This year, Catherine is working at MSAD 40 and she plans to study Chinese pedagogy in 2007.
