Activities:
You are always using English, whether in class, at meals or in the variety
of activities available during the afternoons. Students organize outings
in collaboration with teachers, hosts and friends and are free to do whatever
they want, individually or as a group. Sailing, hiking, and lake and ocean
swimming are among past favorites, as are volleyball, shopping, strawberry-
or blueberry-picking, visiting local fairs, exploring Rockland and nearby
towns on foot, and just sharing conversation. Tennis, golf, fishing, canoeing,
whale-watching, and horse-back riding are also available in or around Rockland.
Students receive free admission to the Samoset Resort with its well-equipped
fitness center, jacuzzi, basketball courts, and indoor and outdoor swimming
pools. Students also receive free admission to the Farnsworth Museum, a
first-rate collection of American art.
Community Connections:
Penobscot School tries to connect our community with the wider world. The
Summer English Program serves this goal by bringing you, with your ideas,
your culture and your perspective, to Rockland. When you come to the Summer
English Program you will not only be learning English, you will be contributing
something that will be appreciated by people here.
