Teachers' Seminar

Teaching Spanish in the Elementary School: A Practical  Workshop for Teachers of FLES
NEW!

Participants will leave this workshop with many ideas and activities that they can incorporate into their classroom on Monday morning. Curriculum, culture, and assessment will be topics of discussion. Participants will receive a handout filled with black line masters usable in their classes. NOTE: If you attended this course in Fall 2005 – sign up again! New material will be covered.

Julie von Kamecke has been teaching Spanish at Rockport Elementary School since the program's inception in 1998. She has been involved in curriculum planning, alignment with the Maine State Learning Results, and local assessment work, as well as serving as a resource for teachers in her district and around the state.

Philosophy Symposium

The Symposium is a friendly exchange of views about what certain thinkers are driving at, and how this fits the larger scheme of things.  Readings are short, with striking attitudes and reasonings.

Rational Animals in the Cosmos: The Charm of Greek Philosophy

Around the 5th century B.C.E., when new ideas were dawning across the world, Greek speculators laid out the fundamentals of a Western tradition. Combining divergent views of reality and ethical principles, they argued, attracted students, and reached the heights of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. Stoics, Epicureans and Skeptics, living in empire as do we, complete the roster. Following tradition we’ll size them up.
